Al-Anfal, Surah The Spoils of War (Qur'an: Surat-8-Al-Anfal)
Bismillaah ir rahmaan ir raheem
8/Al-Anfal-1:
They ask you about the bounties of war. Say: “The bounties of war are for Allah and His Messenger. So have piety towards Allah and amend the matters among you! Obey Allah and His Messenger if you are believers”.
8/Al-Anfal-2:
Those are the true believers whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned. And when Allah’s Verses are read to them, they increase them in Faith, and they put their trust in their Lord.
8/Al-Anfal-3:
They keep up the Prayer and spend out of what We have given them as sustenance.
8/Al-Anfal-4:
These are the true believers. For them are grades with their Lord and Forgiveness (the changing of evil deeds into merits) and an honorable sustenance.
8/Al-Anfal-5:
(It is) just as when your Lord brought you out of your home in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers was unwilling.
8/Al-Anfal-6:
They dispute with you about the truth after it (the state) had become clear, as if they were being driven to death visibly.
8/Al-Anfal-7:
And Allah was promising you one of the two parties that it should be yours. And you ask for the one not armed to be yours. And Allah wills that the truth should be realized with His Words and that He should cut off the back (the continuation of the progeny) of the disbelievers.
8/Al-Anfal-8:
That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the sinners dislike it.
8/Al-Anfal-9:
When you sought help from your Lord, so He answered you. (It is) I am the one who assisted you with a thousand of the angles each behind the other in succession.
8/Al-Anfal-10:
And Allah made it (this help) only as glad tidings, and that your hearts be satisfied with it. And there is no help except from Allah (help is only from Allah). Surely, Allah is All-Mighty (the Owner of Absolute Excellence), All-Wise (the Owner of Judgment and Wisdom).
8/Al-Anfal-11:
(Remember) when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness giving security from Him. And sent down upon you water from the sky that He might purify you thereby and take away from you the whispers of Satan and that He might fortify your hearts and steady your footsteps thereby.
8/Al-Anfal-12:
Your Lord had revealed to the angels: “Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who believe (who have become âmenû, those who have wished to reach Allah). I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and strike their each fingertip”.
8/Al-Anfal-13:
This is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, then Allah is Severe in requiting.
8/Al-Anfal-14:
This is the way, so taste it. And surely for the disbelievers is the torment of the Fire.
8/Al-Anfal-15:
O you who believe (who are âmenû)! When you meet those who disbelieve, then do not turn your backs to them.
8/Al-Anfal-16:
And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless maneuvering for battle or intending to join a company, then he truly has incurred Wrath from Allah and his abode is Hell, and what an evil journey’s end.
8/Al-Anfal-17:
So you did not kill them, but it was Allah Who killed them. And you did not throw when you threw, but it was Allah Who threw. And Allah might test the believers by a fair trial from Him. Verily, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
8/Al-Anfal-18:
That is it, and Allah is the Weakener of the plot of the disbelievers.
8/Al-Anfal-19:
If you ask for a conquest, the conquest has then indeed come to you (to the army that is honorable). And if you desist (from fighting, from opposing), it will be better for you. But if you return (to the war, to denial), We (too) shall return. And your group will be of no avail to you however numerous it be. And verily Allah is with the believers.
8/Al-Anfal-20:
O you who believe (who are âmenû, who wish to reach Allah before death)! Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not turn back from him (the Messenger) while you hear (the Qur’ân).
8/Al-Anfal-21:
And be not like those who say: We have heard, while they do not hear.
8/Al-Anfal-22:
Surely the vilest of animals (that walk on the earth) in Allah’s Sight are the deaf and the dumb, who are not mindful.
8/Al-Anfal-23:
And if Allah had known of any good in them (the deaf and the dumb, who are not mindful), He would have made them hear. And if He makes them hear, they would still have turned away, while they were refusing.
8/Al-Anfal-24:
O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah)! Answer (the Call of) Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah intervenes between the man and his heart and that to Him you shall be gathered [the spirits of you all will be gathered together in Allah and Allah shall be a Refuge (a place of return) to your spirits].
8/Al-Anfal-25:
And guard yourselves (be the owners of piety) against the Fitnah (affliction) which may not fall exclusively on those of you who are wrongdoers and know that Allah is Severe in punishment.
8/Al-Anfal-26:
And remember when you were few, deemed weak in the land, fearing that people might carry you off by force, but He sheltered you and strengthened you with His Aid and gave you of the good and clean things that you may give thanks.
8/Al-Anfal-27:
O you who believe (who wish to reach Allah before death)! Do not betray Allah and His Messenger, and you betray knowingly your trusts too.
8/Al-Anfal-28:
And know that your possessions and your children are a test. And that surely with Allah is a Mighty Reward (Ecrun Azîm).
8/Al-Anfal-29:
O you who believe! If you have piety towards Allah, He gives you discernment (ability to distinguish between right and wrong) and expiates for you your sins (converts your sins into merits) and forgives you. And Allah is the Owner of the Light of great Virtue.
8/Al-Anfal-30:
And those who disbelieved plotted against you that they might confine you or kill you or drive you away. As they were plotting Allah too was plotting a Plan. And Allah is the Best of the plotters (responders).
8/Al-Anfal-31:
And when Our Verses are recited to them, they said: “We have heard indeed; If we wished we could say the like of this; this is nothing but the tales of the ancients”.
8/Al-Anfal-32:
And they had said: “O Allah! If this (the Qur’ân) is indeed the truth (the Book) from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring on us the painful torment”.
8/Al-Anfal-33:
And Allah would not punish them while you were among them. Allah will not punish them (either) while yet they ask for forgiveness.
8/Al-Anfal-34:
And why should not Allah torment them while they hinder from Al-Masjid-Al-Haram and they are not (Allah’s) Friends? His Friends are only the owners of piety, and but most of them do not know.
8/Al-Anfal-35:
And their prayer before the House (of Allah) was nothing but whistling and clapping of hands. Taste then the torment because of what you used to deny.
8/Al-Anfal-36:
Surely those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder from the Way of Allah. So they shall spend it (their wealth), then it shall be to them an intense regret. Then they will be overcome (they will lose). And those who disbelieve will be gathered to Hell.
8/Al-Anfal-37:
This is for Allah to separate the impure from the clean, and put the impure upon each other, and pile it up together, then cast it into Hell. These it is that are the losers.
8/Al-Anfal-38:
Say to those who disbelieve: “If you desist, that which is past shall be forgiven”. And if they return (to disbelief and enmity) then what happened to the ancients has already passed takes place for them (the Divine Law will be carried out for them just like it was carried out for the nations which had passed).
8/Al-Anfal-39:
And fight with them until there is no more Fitne (mischief) and the Religion is all for Allah. But if they desist (from disbelief), then surely, Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.
8/Al-Anfal-40:
And if they turn away, then know that Allah is your Lord and what an Excellent Helper!
8/Al-Anfal-41:
And know that whatever you take as bounty of war, a fifth of it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for his near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the traveler, if you believe in Allah and in that which We sent down to our servant, on the day of Discernment (the Criterion between right and wrong, Furqân), and the day when the two forces met. And Allah has Power over all things.
8/Al-Anfal-42:
You were on the near bank of the valley (on the Madîna side) and they were on the farther side (on the Makkah side), and the caravan was in a lower place than you. And if you had an agreement, you would certainly have broken away from the appointment. But that Allah might bring about a matter (order) which was to be done, that those who perished would perish upon evidence and those who lived would live upon evidence. And most surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
8/Al-Anfal-43:
Allah showed them to you in your dream as few. And if He had shown them to you as many, you would certainly have become weak-hearted and you would have disputed about the matter. But Allah saved (you). Surely Allah is the All-Knowing of what is in the breasts.
8/Al-Anfal-44:
And He showed them to you as few in your eyes, when you met them, and He made you to appear little in their eyes, in order that Allah might bring about an order which was to be done. And to Allah are all affairs (Orders) returned.
8/Al-Anfal-45:
O you who believe (who are âmenû)! When you meet a party (an enemy force), then be patient and remember (repeat the Name of) Allah much, that you may have Salvation.
8/Al-Anfal-46:
And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute (with one another) lest you become weak and your strength departs. Be patient, surely Allah is with the patient.
8/Al-Anfal-47:
And be not like those who come forth from their homes boastfully and to be seen by people, and avert (others) from the Way of Allah. And Allah is encompassing of what they do.
8/Al-Anfal-48:
And Satan had embellished their deeds. And said: “No one of the men can overcome you this day”. And verily, I am your ally (helper). But when the two parties came in sight of each other, he turned upon his two heels, and said: “Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Surely I see what you do not see. Verily I fear Allah”. And Allah is Severe in punishment.
8/Al-Anfal-49:
The hypocrites and those in whose hearts was a disease were saying: “Their own religion has deceived these”. And whoever puts his trust in Allah, then surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
8/Al-Anfal-50:
And if you had seen when the angels cause to die those who disbelieve, smiting their faces and their backs and (saying): “Taste the torment of burning”.
8/Al-Anfal-51:
This is because of that which your hands have put forth (What you have done on your own). And verily Allah is not ever unjust to His servants.
8/Al-Anfal-52:
In the manner of the people of Pharaoh and those before them; they disbelieved in Allah’s Verses. Therefore Allah took them on account of their sins. Surely Allah is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.
8/Al-Anfal-53:
This is because Allah never changes the Blessing he has bestowed on any people until they change what is with them. And verily, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
8/Al-Anfal-54:
(Their) state (the Quraish tribe that was fighting at Badr) is as the state of Pharaoh (his army) and those before them. They belied the Verses of their Lord. Therefore We destroyed them because of their sins. And We drowned the people (army) of Pharaoh. And they all became tyrants.
8/Al-Anfal-55:
Surely the worst of animals (that walk) in Allah’s Sight are those who disbelieve. Then they will not believe.
8/Al-Anfal-56:
They are those with whom you made a covenant, but they break their covenant every time. And they are not the owners of piety.
8/Al-Anfal-57:
Therefore if you overtake them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that perhaps they may deliberate.
8/Al-Anfal-58:
If you fear treachery (of covenant) on the part of a people, then throw back to them (cancel their covenant) on terms of equality. Surely Allah does not love the treacherous.
8/Al-Anfal-59:
Let not those who disbelieve assume that they are safe. Assuredly, they cannot render (Allah) impotent.
8/Al-Anfal-60:
And prepare against them what force you can and horses tethered (fed for war). Thereby you may dismay the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others besides them. You do not know them but Allah knows them. Whatever thing you spend in the Way of Allah, it will be paid back to you fully and you shall not be wronged.
8/Al-Anfal-61:
And if they incline to peace, then (you also) incline to it (accept their offer) and put your trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
8/Al-Anfal-62:
And if they want to deceive you, then surely Allah is All-Sufficient for you. He it is Who supports you and the believers with His help.
8/Al-Anfal-63:
And He has united their hearts (with love). If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts. And but Allah has united them. Certainly He is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
8/Al-Anfal-64:
O Prophet! Allah is Sufficient for you and for those who have depended on you of the believers.
8/Al-Anfal-65:
O Prophet! Encourage the believers to battle. If there are twenty patient ones of you, they shall overcome two hundred. And if there are a hundred of you, they shall overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they are a people who do not understand.
8/Al-Anfal-66:
Now, Allah has lightened for you, as He knew that in you is weakness. So if there are a hundred patient ones of you, they shall overcome two hundred, and if there are a thousand, they shall overcome two thousand by Allah’s Permission. And Allah is with the patient.
8/Al-Anfal-67:
It is not (appropriate) for a Nebî (prophet) that he should take captives unless he has fought and triumphed definitely in the land. You desire the frail goods of the world, and Allah desires the Hereafter. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.
8/Al-Anfal-68:
Were it nor for a Writing from Allah (Levh-i Mahfuz) that had already gone forth (in the past), surely a severe torment would have touched you for what (ransom) you took.
8/Al-Anfal-69:
Eat then of the good, clean and lawful things, which you have gotten of booty in war. And have piety towards Allah. Surely Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
8/Al-Anfal-70:
O Nebî (Prophet)! Say to those of the captives who are in your hands: “If Allah knows any good in your hearts, He will give to you better than that which has been taken away from you and He will forgive you”. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
8/Al-Anfal-71:
And if they would betray you, they indeed betrayed Allah before. So He gave (you) some means against them. And Allah is All-Knowing and All-Wise.
8/Al-Anfal-72:
Verily those who believed (who wished to reach Allah before death) and emigrated and struggle on the Way of Allah with their property and their souls (lives) in the Way of Allah and those who gave shelter and helped (them), these are friends of one another. And you owe no duty of protection to them until they emigrate. But if they seek your help in religion, it is your duty to help them except against a people with whom you have a covenant (a treaty). And Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.
8/Al-Anfal-73:
And those who disbelieve, they are the friends to each other. If you do not do it (if you do not become friends of one another) there will be in the land Fitnah and a great mischief.
8/Al-Anfal-74:
And those who believed (became âmenû, wished to reach Allah before death) and emigrated and struggle hard in the Way of Allah, as well as those who gave (them) shelter and helped, these are the true believers. For them is forgiveness and a generous sustenance.
8/Al-Anfal-75:
And those who believed (became âmenû) afterwards and emigrated and struggled hard along with you (in the Way of Allah), they are of you. But kindred by blood (relatives) are nearer to one another in the Book of Allah. Verily, Allah is the All-Knowing of everything.
