2/Al-Baqarah-177: It is not All-Birr (that reflects the true belief, acts that make men worthy of Paradise) that you turn your faces towards the East and the West, but All-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in Allah and the Last Day (the later day that one reaches Allah, the day of Guidance, spirit’s returning back to Allah) and the angels and the Book and the Prophets; and gives from his wealth that he loves to the kinsfolk, to the orphans, and to the needy (old folks who are incapable of working) and to the stranded, and to those who ask and to set slaves (captives) free, keeps up the Prayer, and gives the Zakât (the alms) and who fulfill their covenant when they make it (with Allah and men), and who are patient in extreme poverty and ailment and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Those are they who are truthful (veracious) and those are they who are the pious [the owners of piety (takvâ)].
2/Al-Baqarah-178: O you who believe (who are âmenû)! The Law of Retaliation (of Equality in punishment, Al-Qisâs) is prescribed for you in the matter of the murdered: the free for the free and the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But if any remission is made to anyone by his (aggrieved) brother, then prosecution (for the blood wit) should be made according to custom, and payment should be made to him in fairness; this is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy; so whoever exceeds the limit after this, then for him there is a painful torment.
2/Al-Baqarah-179: And for you there is life in retaliation, O Ulû’l elbâb! (Those who have attained to the continuous remembrance of the Name of Allah and thus know the innermost secret treasures of Allah!), that you may become the pious (Al-Muttaqûn, the owners of takwâ).
2/Al-Baqarah-180: Bequest is prescribed for you when death approaches one of you and leaving behind wealth for parents and near relatives, according to Ma’rûf (custom) is a duty (to be fulfilled, a right) upon those who are pious (the owners of piety, “takwâ”).
2/Al-Baqarah-181: Whoever then alters it (the bequest) after he has heard it, the sin of it then is only upon those who alter it; surely, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
